Charles Whitefield Bell, 91, of Meriden, died Thursday December 20, 2012 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Sherman Bell.
Born in Monson, MA, November 24, 1921, a son of the late Charles Whitfield Bell and the late Mildred Bradley Bell, he was a Yalesville resident for over 50 years before moving to Meriden 10 years ago. He was a mechanical engineer for the Unholtz/Dickey Co., in Wallingford for many years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot. He was a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianne R. Bell and her fiancÚ Albert Roberts of Meriden; his sons, Robert C. Bell and his wife Cynthia, of Palmetto, FL, and Kenneth A. Bell and his wife Charlotte of Amherst, NH; his brother-in-law Kenneth (Irene) Sherman of Palmer, MA, his sisters-in-law Dorothy Nadolski of Palmer, MA, and Cornelia Bell of Louisville, KY, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Roger E. Bell and Allen R. Bell.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Yalesville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Anne Bracket, Pastor, will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the In Memoriam Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of The Yalesville Funeral Home 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford.
