John L. "Big Red" Grabek, 58, of Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in New Haven, July 31, 1951, a son of the late John S. Grabek and Jane Beaudoin Grabek and had been employed as the doorman at Café 9 in New Haven. John loved taking walks into the outdoors, he will be missed by many, and will be remembered as a gentle giant. John was a member of the Sommers Inner Circle, where he was known as “spirit walker.”
He is survived by his daughter Beth Kinney of Colorado; his beloved sister Gloria Grabek of Shelton, and his sister Sharon White, of Florida; his brother and best friend William Grabek, of Yalesville; his beloved cousin Colleen Neleber, of North Haven; his dear friend Janet Gibbons of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Michael Grabek, and David Grabek.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, Saturday, March 13, from 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
