Life Legacy

Helen Teresa Donnelly MacDonald, 92, of Masonicare Health Center, formerly of Silver Pond Apartments in Wallingford died peacefully on April 23, 2012. She was the wife of the late Harry A. MacDonald

She was born in Worcester, MA, August 16, 1919, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Eva Yakutis Donnelly and had later resided in Orange, CT, for 10 years, West Haven, CT, for 18 years and finally Wallingford, CT, since 1988 where she moved to be near her family and grandchildren. Helen worked for the Navy Department from 1943 to 1945 and then acted as the Assistant to the Field Director of the American Red Cross from 1945 to 1947 in Italy where she met and married her husband. After the war she had been employed by the former Armstrong Rubber Company in West Haven as an Office Supervisor until her retirement. Very proud of her Lithuanian heritage, she was a member of the Knights of Lithuania – New Haven Council. She also was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and was a member of the Wallingford Senior Center. Helen served a term as Treasurer of the Silver Pond Apartments Association and volunteered for the Meriden-Wallingford Chapter of the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Sandra Deering MacDonald of Wallingford, Douglas P. MacDonald of East Haven, and Carol Warren MacDonald and her brother David T. Warren of Wallingford; her four grandchildren, Dr. Christine Warren MacDonald Signore and her husband Stephen of Middletown, David Warren MacDonald and his fiancée, Jennifer Laccone of Wallingford, Kate MacDonald Haueisen and her husband Tov of Darien, Anne MacDonald Dempster and her husband Robert of Wallingford; her five great grandchildren, Olivia and Jackson Signore, and Rachel, Samantha and Paige Haueisen; her sister, Mary Averill of Rhode Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Ann Jankelunas, and Bernice Kellogg.

Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Masonicare and Hospice for the exceptional care that they provided.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 29, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT 06492.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:30 a.m. directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
